Training Classes at Dog Star Canine

Obedience training classes at Dog Star Canine are designed to educate both dog and owner, to open lines of communication between you, and to help you work together without using harsh, painful corrections and physical coercion. Using Positive Reinforcement training, you will learn how to effectively train your dog to be well behaved, obedient, and a joy to live with. It’s easy, fun for both of you, and it works!

Classes last for 6 weeks and meet for one hour a week, at a cost of $145.00.

We teach the obedience basics, which include name recognition, sit, down, come, stay, walk on a loose leash, and a relaxed down. Also included are good management practices: crate training, house training, mouthing and chewing, feeding, the use of a longline, and touch de-sensitization. Class members often want to continue with additional 6 week sessions, and learn how to increase the duration and reliability of behaviors while dealing with higher levels of distraction.

Rather than determining classes by the age of the dog, we do so by size. We have found that this promotes a feeling of security and confidence for the dogs, and levels the playing field for the socialization process-for example, a 12 week old large breed puppy can seem very overwhelming and intimidating to a 12 week old small breed puppy (think St. Bernard/Miniature Poodle). Contrary to popular belief, age is not a consideration when training: a dog is never too young or too old to learn good behavior.

We believe that a thorough grounding in the basics will give you the tools that you and your dog need to live happily and harmoniously together.

For the safety of all our guests we require that all pets entering Dog Star Canine have up to date proof of the following vaccinations:

For Dogs we require: Rabies, and DHLPP
We will accept blood titers showing acceptable levels of antibodies.
